Our Team
It has been said that a team is, "A distinguishable set of two or more individuals who interact dynamically, interdependently, and adaptively to achieve specified, shared and valued objectives." Our team at Cardwell has been selected not unlike a professional baseball or football team.  We recruit the finest individuals to fill specific team positions within the company.  This team has never played in a Super Bowl, but with the skills and the leadership of our managers we have been recognized for three years running as one of the fastest growing companies in Utah; this past year #51.  This is an amazing accomplishment considering the company is over 40 years old.  We are proud of our team members and their managers.
Thank you,
Bill Rawson & Tom Leiter

Bill Rawson, President

A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Bill joined the company founder, his father-in-law, Lowell Cardwell, in 1976.  If there is a job at Cardwell Bill has not mastered, it does not exist. Bill was elected President and CEO in June of 1998.  Bill's achievements are too many to list, but it should be noted that he has served on many national committees promoting fair trade for the petroleum industry.  Bill is an active participant in the Utah Petroleum Marketers Association and after 15 years on the Board of Directors, he served as their President from 1990-1991.  Bill and his wonderful wife Paula have been married for 32 years.  They call Lehi, Utah home where they have 6 children and 5 grandchildren.  Hobbies and interests include touring on his Harley-Davidson and spending time with his family and friends.

Tom Leiter, Vice Pres.

Tom is a native of Utah.  Tom started at Cardwell when the company had only 4 trucks.  He worked for Lowell Cardwell, the founder of the company, driving and delivering fuel and oil products.  Tom soon moved into sales working with the company's major accounts.  In 1998, and after 10 years of sales, Tom assumed the role of Vice President of Cardwell with the responsibility of managing the entire operations of the company's six locations in Utah and Wyoming.  With Tom's outstanding leadership and demand for customer service the company has thrived.  However, he feels that the success of the company is due to its "great employees" and the service they provide.  In 1970, Tom married Char and together they have four sons and fifteen grandchildren.  Tom loves the mountains, and he enjoys hiking, hunting, fishing and four-wheeling with his family.

Gerry Lefavor, CPA

Gerry joined the Cardwell team in April 2005.  He is a licensed CPA with 30 years of private industry experience.  He brings a fresh look at the petroleum industry with expertise in manufacturing and wholesale distribution, retail, biotech, software technology and air cargo transportation.  Gerry is a Utah native who grew up in the Salt Lake City area and graduated from Skyline HS and the University of Utah.  He was an all-conference pitcher for the Utes Baseball Team in 1974.  He has lived in northern California and North Carolina where he learned to play golf.  He loves to compete in amateur events and has qualified for the Utah State Amateur Tournament.  He and his wife Gaye have been married for over 30 years and have three grown children.  And they both love to spoil their grandkids.  Gerry says that he loves the petroleum business and can't wait to come to work each day with all the talented and capable people who make Cardwell such a fun place to work.

Joe Phillips

Joe Phillips is our new General Manager over Sales and Marketing.

Dan Sims

Cardwell/Hutchinson oil is proud of our long standing and excellent safety record. Our incident rates are below industry average and constantly improving.

Our newly appointed Safety Director, Dan,  has been with Cardwell/Hutchinson for 6 years and has taken a leadership role to enhance the safety culture at Cardwell/Hutchinson Oil.

Along with Dan's background in sales and technical services, he was a first responder and trained EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) in the Ohio surface mining industry. As the mine manager of a large surface coal mine, Dan trained as an EMT to be a first responder because medical help was so far away.

Safety has always been first in the industries Dan has worked in including the oil distribution industry. He has completed many types of safety training programs making him proficient in DOT, MSHA, and OSHA regulations and safety procedures. He continues to train to keep himself and others more aware of the benefits of working safely. He understands the principles of occupational safety, health, and environmental awareness and shares these principles with fellow workers and customers.

Keep Safety First” is more than a slogan at Cardwell/Hutchinson oil.

D. Frank Anderson

Frank joined the Cardwell team in 2004 as the Fuel and Project Development Manager. He worked for Sinclair Oil Corporation for 12 years.  His assignments with Sinclair included the Fleet Card and Lube Oil programs.  He also served as their National Accounts manager for 5 years.  He holds two degrees from the University of Utah and is a huge Ute fan.  If you have any questions about Bio-Diesel, he is the one to ask.  He and his wife Janet are cowboys at heart.  They have horses and cattle near their home in Timber Lakes, Utah.  If not on their horses, they will be on their sailboat or riding their Harley.

Robert York

Robert says, "The job is great, I love it!"  Robert brings the get-it-done attitude to Cardwell.  He works long hours making certain things on the operations side get done.  Fifteen years ago Robert started his career in the petroleum business working for a Washington State-based distributor.  In 2002, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, got married, and accepted a position with Cardwell Distributing. He has since taken the position of Operations Manager.  Robert's unique management style, his innovative way of attacking issues, and his dedication to the company has assured the company's success.  Robert claims to help his wife with the chores at home, but our guess is he hits the couch and crashes after his 12+ hour days at Cardwell.  Robert does find some time to get in a round of golf on occasion and is a big Utah Jazz fan.

Michelle Prusse

Michelle is a second generation petroleum industry professional.  You could say she has crude oil in her veins. As a small child she took crude oil samples and drill bits to her school for show-and-tell.  She started her career more than 20 years ago with a truck stop chain based in Portland, Oregon.  She moved to Utah in 1999, and soon went to work for Sinclair Oil Corporation at their headquarters in Salt Lake City.  She excelled in their marketing and supply departments until 2005, when we were lucky enough to steal her away.  She is now the company controller and office manager.  When not at work, Michelle enjoys any hobby involving a craft or fabric store.  Michelle is very close to her family, mom and dad, her seven siblings and their spouses, and her 17 nieces and nephews.

Carole Sharp

Carole is our credit manager. She has worked with the company now for 7 years, but has worked in collections over the past 20 years for various businesses. With all her experience working for other companies, she feels that Cardwell is by far the best to work for. Her favorite past times all evolve around her family and grand babies. She loves to cook, have parties, shop, and go to movies for fun.

Lisa Jordison

Lisa has worked for Cardwell for nine years, and has been in the petroleum industry for over 14 years, working in different areas, including accounting, fleet cards,  and customer service.  She earned her General Studies Associate of Science degree with an emphasis on Business.  She is a current member of SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) and, as time allows, attends training to become the best at what she does, and has recently earned her PHR (Professional in Human Resources) certification.  Lisa likes working with employees to help the company do what it does best - taking care of its employees.  During Lisa's tenure with Cardwell, she has seen the number of employees triple in size.

Jim Lyons

Jim is responsible for the dispatch of our Midvale, Utah fleet of trucks.

Sean Hoff

Sean is our fuel dispatcher.

Pattrick Jenkins

Pattrick Jenkins is our new Warehouse Manager.

Bart Hutchinson

Bart grew up in the petroleum industry.  He pulled weeds for his father's petroleum company when he was 16.  He then moved into the warehouse where he loaded drums, cases and has delivered thousands of gallons of fuel.  He now makes sales calls and prepares payroll and is an integral part of the Cardwell/Hutchinson management team that has made the company the successful business it is.  Bart attended the University of Wyoming and Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.  He and his wife are very proud of their two wonderful children.  Hunting on horseback and fishing are Bart's favorite things.  Bart is also a famous dancer and rodeo bull rider.

Chrystal Moore

Chrystal grew up in the petroleum industry.  At age 15, she worked for her father Farris Hutchinson, the founder of Hutchinson Oil in Evanston, Wyoming. There is not much that Chrystal has not mastered in the business.  She joined the Cardwell team with the addition of Hutchinson Oil to the family in 2002.  She is currently the Office Manager in the Evanston, Wyoming facility where she keeps everyone in step and manages the everyday operations that keeps Cardwell moving forward.  A bonus for Chrystal is working with her husband Gordon.  They have worked side by side for the past 23 years and she says she loves it.  She loves making porcelain dolls when she has the time.

Gordon Moore

Gordon was born and raised in Evanston, Wyoming.  He has 30 years of petroleum experience in all areas of the business.  He started out when he was young as a driver and moved quickly to dispatcher and has become Manager of our Wyoming locations.  He has been married for 26 years to his sweetheart Chrystal and together they have three children.

Blair Cropper

Blair is our Plant Manager in Delta.

Sandee Cropper

Sandee is the manager of our C-Stores in Midvale and Delta.

Keith Proctor

Keith's diverse background serving customers in the construction, trucking, mining and petroleum business for 24 years makes him an excellent sales rep.  He has completed technical lubrication training from Chevron, Shell, Texaco and Safety-Kleen.  Keith was Cardwell's Salesman of the Year in 2005. His customers say Keith's knowledge, professionalism, honesty and personality make him a pleasure to work with.  Keith enjoys fishing using the catch and release philosophy so he can go back and enjoy the challenge again.

Greg Crockett

Greg has been with our team now for 5 years.  He began checking fuel and oil levels at our customers' locations insuring product supply.  Greg then moved into customer service taking orders for fuel and lubricants for our customers.  His positive energy and interest in customer satisfaction has taken him into outside sales.  He enjoys meeting with his customers and is excited to be working directly wtih them. He loves the outdoors including mountain biking and being behind his boat on his Sky Ski and water ski.

Rich Rawson

Rich started working for Lowell Cardwell in 1978 and worked until 2000, when he left for 9 years and returned in the Fall of 2009.  He has been in the fuel, oil, and trucking industry for 31 years and has gained experience working with customers from many points of business.  He has completed Amoco and Chevron courses in oil and lube and also many other classes to maintain current knowledge in his field.  He says it's good to be back home working with Bill and Tom, and all of the committed employees of Cardwell Distributing.  Lowell Cardwell told him on his first day of work that it is so important to take care of the customer.  He has remembered those words for the last 31 years. He is committed to this statement and feels that taking care of customers has never been as important as it is today.  He looks forward to rekindling old friendships and earning new ones.

Dan Gehrke

After retiring a couple of years ago, Dan missed the Cardwell bunch so much, we were able to talk him into coming back.  Dan spent 35 years working for Cummins Diesel as a Sales Engineer.  Dan has such a natural ability to communicate with his customers that most have become his personal friends.  Dan spends his leisure time golfing, hunting, fishing and loves to spend time in his mountain cabin.

Danny Montoya

Danny is a graduate of Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah.  Danny then went to work for Kennecott Copper, the largest producer of copper in the United States.  After 33 years he retired and Cardwell was lucky enough to talk him into joining our team.  Danny's years in mining and industrial engineering add greatly to the companies expertise.  He has now worked for Cardwell for over 10 years.  He is an avid golfer and a Chicago Bears' fan.  He and his wife Colleen enjoy camping and off-roading.

Roger Nelson

Roger began his driving career for Wasatch Sale early in life.  He has hauled fuel for different companies over the past 47 years, but has made his home at Cardwell and has been here four dedicated years.  Roger is devoted to taking care of his customers, many of whom he knows personally.  He has an easy smile and loves what he does.  Those of us who know him have heard him say he'd rather be driving his truck than just about anything else.

Randy Gossard

Randy has been driving professionally and around the oil and mining industry for 27 years.  For 25 of those years, he has been delivering to customers.  Randy began working more directly with lubricants with Lincoln Oil in 1986, Hutchinson Oil in 1987 and then Cardwell Distributing in 2002.  He has been a dedicated part of our team for over 20 years.  Randy lives life to its fullest in a boat with a fishing pole in hand.
