Lowell Cardwell, Founder of Cardwell Distributing passes away11/5/2009Lowell J Cardwell 1927 ~ 2009 Our kind and loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, Lowell J Cardwell, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Darlington, Idaho September 20, 1927, to William Henry and Ethel Lillian Hibbard Cardwell, the seventh of 11 children. His family moved to Riverton, Utah where he was raised. Lowell married Fern Bills on August 16, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Lowell served in the United States Merchant Marines in World War II. He was aboard one of the first ships into Japan at the end of the war. He worked in the petroleum industry, and was the Founder of Cardwell Distributing. Lowell enjoyed his time spent with the many wonderful employees and customers over the many years. He served as UPMA President from 1985-1986. An active member of the LDS Church, he was Bishop of the East Midvale 2nd Ward and loved the people he served. Later, he served as a Counselor to President Grant Pullan of the Midvale North LDS Stake. Lowell's greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. He especially enjoyed fishing trips and time spent at his cabin. Survived by his wife, Fern; daughters, Charlene (Tom) Leiter, Paula (Bill) Rawson; son, Steve (Terri) Cardwell; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. Also surviving sisters, Ivy Page, Verna Lloyd, Annie Joy (Ted) Shinsel, all Riverton; brother, John Cardwell, California; sister-in-law, Vera Cardwell (Roy); also many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Bill, Dale, Dan, Mart; sister, Ethyl; one great-grandson, Christopher Leiter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Midvale 1st LDS Ward Chapel, 308 West 7500 South. A viewing will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Monday 6-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Riverton City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of the Utah Cancer Clinic for their kind care and also Symbii Hospice for the loving care and support given to Lowell and his family. |
